About

A former Mongrel Mob member who left the gang and had an associated tattoo burnt from his arm with a gas torch has been praised by a judge for turning his life around. The December 16 conflict stopped traffic as it spilled onto the road around midday, and shocked Christmas shoppers who were traversing the busy street. Eleven calls were made to in a period of three minutes and as sirens sounded, Young and Tuhaka legged it, only to be arrested shortly after. Judge Hikaka said Young became a patch member of the Mongrel Mob following a difficult upbringing. But he surrendered his patch and left the gang in May, which has been confirmed by police. Young is currently on ACC but will return to his full-time employment once he was able to.

Description

Gangs identify themselves to other members, rival gangs and the public by patches, colours, inia and salutes. The Mongrel Mob's colour is red. Facial and body tattoos of inia are also common.

All Mob patches feature a version of the gang's symbol, the bulldog, often wearing a studded collar.
